Brangles II - Class Description

Examples of the unique brangles you can make with these skills.
Click on image for enlargement.

This two day class will you teach you how to make free-form, honeycomb, two-tiered, and triangled brangles. A brangle is a combination of a bracelet and a bangle. It borrows flexibility from the bracelet and firmness of structure from the bangle. People who are not real comfortable with the feel of a bangle, yet like how it looks, are pleased with the brangle. We will explore technical components and design elements and variations and embellishments.

I recommend that you have at least basic wire skills before taking this class. Please note: the Brangles I class is NOT a prerequisite for this class.

What to bring to class:

* Round nose pliers
* Flat nose pliers
* Chain nose pliers
* Flush or micro-bevel cutters that will cut up to 12 gauge wire
* Steel bench block
   Ball peen hammer
* Plastic mallet
* Needle files
   Bead reamer (nice, but not necessary)
   6 inch ruler
   Soft tape measure
   Sharpie/indelible pen
   Grey mat
   Note book to take notes
* Color wheel
   Copy of Seller's permit if you want to avoid paying tax on
   beads and wire.

Please note:
If you wish to borrow one or more of the above starred items, please let me know prior to your scheduled class. I want you to feel you can take a class without making a significant investment. You are also welcome to purchase these items in class or online before class.

Beads
Please bring a selection of beads, bead caps, and spacers that have holes large enough to accommodate 16 gauge wire and 14 gauge wire. I will also have beads available for purchase. Beads for these projects should probably be on the smallish side of things. The largest beads I used in the third sample are 11 x 8 mm. You can also use charms and other adornments in your brangles.

Silver Wire (approximate amounts)

3 feet of 12 gauge sterling silver dead soft round wire
   3 feet of 14 gauge sterling silver dead soft round wire
   4 feet of 16 gauge sterling silver dead soft round wire
   3 feet of 18 sterling silver dead soft round wire
   3 feet of 22 or 20 gauge twisted sterling silver round wire
