Spring
Zing Jewelry Contest 2008 |
|
|
|
|
Results Are In! Please See The Contest
Page For Winners!
I offer my special thanks to Jonna Faulkner,
the judge of this contest, for taking her time and applying years
of jewelry making experience to make her decisions. I also want
to thank all of you who participated in the contest! I am appreciative
of the creative work you did along with how much care you took
in presenting your jewelry. We will be creating a permanent section
in the Gallery on Jatayu
for entries of the Spring Zing Contest 2008. Of course, we have
tried to seek your permission before displaying your jewelry
in this way. We have sent each of you an email asking your permission/preference.
If you did not received this email, please contact Christine
to let her know of your preference. Your name and any contact
info you wish to display can be included, along with the image
and description of the entry. Hopefully, this will bring you
some business. Thanks so much!

"Fast and Thrifty" shipping for $4.95: |
|
|
|
|
We have added a lot of interesting beads in
the last month and have more to come. To make your purchases
more affordable, we have added "Fast and Thrifty" shipping
as an option via USPS Priority Mail. You can choose this type
of shipping if your package weighs under one pound and if it
will fit in a standard USPS video box or an 8 x 11 inch flat
envelope. If for some reason, your products weigh over a pound,
or don't fit in the box, Molly will contact you. Please note:
there is no tracking when this option is selected.

March 12th... |
|
|
|
|
Because so many people have requested it,
we will again have a greater selection of copper and brass shapes
for you to play with. Also on the horizon is a fine silver plated
slot-bolt that you can use as a cold connection. In case you
are wondering, I am still waiting on the jump ring cutter.
We are running a new contest and I certainly
hope you like the theme of mixed metals. As you can see in my
jewelry two of my favorite combinations are silver/brass and
silver/copper. But keep in mind other metals as well: anodized
aluminum, niobium, steel, nickel, oh yes, and then there is gold.
It is pretty funny that I thought of aluminum before gold crept
into my thoughts - I guess that is a good thing.
Take care and thank you for all of your support!

Leap Day, February 29th... |
|
|
|
|
I thought you might like to
see a good example of what can
be done using enamel and sheet metal. If you want info about
my class in Idyllwild, please
see info on Metals Week classes. Just scroll down on that
page till you get to my class. To register,
you can call 951-659-2171. Ask for Diane. Monday through Friday.
People who take classes with me know how much I love
to use color in my jewelry. Now here is yet another way to bring
color into our creations enamel. I am teaching a class
in Idyllwild
this summer on earring techniques which includes enameling (and
other skills). A lovely and very creative woman approached me
yesterday and said that she doesnt wear earrings but loves
the enamel work. Well, I am not one to be a stickler in my classes
and if she or anyone else wants to apply enamel techniques to
bracelets or even toe rings, I say Go, girl!

A Few of My Favorite Things: |
|
|
|
|
Silicone Polishing Wheels If you want to rid your metal of those little
dings and divots using a silicone polishing wheel is an easy
effective way to do it. The grit varies from coarse to ultra-fine
(see TPO-0619,
TPO-0620,
TPO-0621,
TPO-0622,
TPO-0632).
If the marks are deep, start with a coarse wheel and finish with
a fine or ultra-fine wheel. Besides the polishing wheel and the
attachment mandrel, you will need a flex
shaft or a Dremel to accomplish this. Dont forget
to wear safety
glasses and a particulate
mask.
Color Tool If
you are trying to put great colors together you might try this
handy and informative tool. It is easy to match the focal color
you are working with (a color wheel has many fewer selections)
and on the back of each page you will find color various combinations
that will work beautifully. I like being able to select the recommended
cards to see what it might look like before I dig into my beads.
Many of us have some basic information about color combining
(including me), but when it comes to putting unique colors together,
I need a tool like this. |
